Projeto Velho Amigo has partnerships with theaters and cultural producers who annually benefit senior citizens (assisted by our organization) by donating invitations to the theatre. Senior Citizens have had an opportunity to watch shows like.
The International Day of Older Persons is observed each year on October 1st. It was created in 2003 by the UN, with the primary objective of enabling and expanding the contributions of older people by focusing on the pathways that support full and active participation in old age, in accordance with old persons´ fundamental rights, needs, and preferences. In the same year, the statute of the elderly was created to ensure that the rights of older persons are respected, for example, the right to acquire free drugs at health clinics, priority in queues, exemption from paying for public transport, discounts on cultural activities, sports and leisure activities, among others.
The date is commemorated annually with a special party for about 400 Senior Citizens, living in the Institutions assisted by Projeto Velho Amigo. On this day seniors enjoy ballroom dancing, gardening, arts and crafts, storytelling as well as a lively bingo session. The goal of this celebration is to raise society’s awareness for the cause of older persons (by helping their day to be remembered) so that it may become a part of many organizations’ commemorative calendar.
